Peter never sugarcoats the truth of life in Christ. We will suffer because of our faith in Christ. And in fact, this should not take us by surprise. Rather we ought to expect and see it as the foreshadow of Christ’s returning righteousness. For the trials of a believer are not the same as the pointless anguish of the lost. And this truth should move us to compassion and good works.
Grounded – to a teen it means you can’t go out. To a pilot it means you can’t take off. To a Christian grounded means, regardless of circumstance, we continue in our faith, established and firm, never moving from the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As we turn our attention towards the Book of 1 Peter, our goal is just that – to get grounded.
