Jesus spent more time with His closest friends than anyone else. They shared good times, bad times, ugly times – sometimes all three at the same time – together. But with Jesus, friendship wasn’t an end unto itself. It was always about a higher purpose. If that was true for Jesus, shouldn’t it be true for us, too? Could it be that our friendships are more important and have more purpose than we realize?
It’s natural to think of family during Christmas, but often the truth is that we aren't able to be with family during this season. But no matter where we are, we can always have friends around us! That's why when Jesus said to His followers, “I call you My friends,” He was telling them He would be with them always. As we head into Christmas, as a church, let's focus on the friendships Christ has brought into our lives.
