Our Church-wide Food Drive runs from February 21st through March 7th. This is when we as a church help restock the shelves of our food pantry, Chesapeake Cares Food Pantry, for people in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. In 2020, volunteers distributed over 933,000 pounds of food to an average of 1100 families per week.

Below you will find a list of suggested food items to donate.
Parents, actively involving your children in our food drive is an opportunity for you to teach them "All People Matter to God" and, as Christians, we are called to help feed the hungry.
Make it a family activity. Pick a time to go to the grocery store as a family, mark it on the calendar, and talk it up - even countdown to the date! When you go to the store, have your children take turns reading the food items list, finding them down the aisle, and taking them off the shelves. Let them do it! As you walk down each aisle, discuss hunger in our community and our responsibility and privilege as Christians to feed and care for our neighbors.
LIST OF SUGGESTED ITEMS:
Canned or dry beans (black, navy, pinto)
Canned fruit (regular or individual serving size)
Canned meat (chicken, tuna, salmon)
Cereal/oatmeal or pancake mix
Fruit Juice (64 ounce bottles or juice boxes)
Macaroni & cheese
Maseca corn flour
Whole wheat pasta/rice
VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE:
Our virtual food drive option allows us to make bulk purchases at significant savings. A $20 donation allows us to purchase 100 pounds of food, enough to feed a family of four for one week. With a $100 donation, we can feed them for an entire MONTH..
